A Classic English Kitchen in a Victorian Rectory

How can one company make so many stunning kitchens? Each one surpassing the last. Each one sending me off down a path of fantasy and longing. This is the English Classic kitchen by deVOL. A bespoke range of handmade cupboards inspired by traditional Georgian designs and looking so much at home in this Victorian rectory you’d think it had been there forever. It really does appear to be part of the original house rather than a newly fitted kitchen.

This room is so full of character and charm. It’s like all of my favourite things have been skillfully put together and the result is greater than the sum of its parts. Traditional style married with just the right amount of quirkiness to provide just a bit of humour.  The tall ceilings allowed the customer to buy a very grand antique chandelier that is huge but not over the top, it’s not too shiny or too sparkly, just subtle in a very bold and slightly bohemian way.

The ceramic deVOL fluted sink was the customers’ starting point for this kitchen and an instant must-have when they began the design process. The iconic aged brass tap and a cool Carrara marble worktop complete the quintessential deVOL look.

And those open shelves! Propped up with deVOL brackets brackets of course. These ones are in the Aged Brass finish and perfect for this kitchen. Framed by classic white metro tiles and just the right shade of green on the wall the shelves look fabulous.

The terracotta floor is inspired, especially the little area in front of the cooker where the lovely customers cleverly created the ‘look of a rug’ without the impracticalities of rugs in kitchens! And have you noticed the playful wallpaper on the chimney breast? It’s covered with delightful images of Victorian desserts, in a soft, almost faded pink colour. It’s exactly the right mix of tradition and quirkiness to give this grown-up room a little spark of fun.

The final touch, and a part of the kitchen that really shines out is the copper topped kitchen table. Hand-finished and aged in the deVOL workshops, the bespoke copper has an old-world charm that just simply glows. Surprisingly hard-wearing and ever-changing, this material is perfect as the centrepiece of a hard-working family kitchen.

Classic English Kitchens by deVOL are made by hand in their Leicestershire workshops, prices start from £25,000.
