Rumour has it that it will warm up a bit this week. Which is just as well as outdoor entertaining is all we have to look forward to for a while yet. So just in time H&M Home have come up with the goods. As well as just a few inspirational images to whet the appetite and get us in the mood. We may be taking it outside, but that’s no excuse for paper plates and plastic glasses. Take a hint and lay the table as if your guests are special people. Which of course they are.

We might not all have a view like this but we can make the table look as pretty as a picture. Make sure guests have cushions to sit on, whip out the tablecloth and light the candles.
I’m a sucker for a floral table setting, with pretty glassware, drinks decanted into curvaceous jugs, and a vase of big blowsy blooms. Hint: the white stoneware jug is only £24.99, available here.
Some of the best table decorations are the edible kind don’t you think? A huge bowl of exotic fruit, a lavishly decorated cake, and small bowls of nuts, olives and vegetable crudités.
The taper candles are lovely but you may find them hard to keep alight outside. This year I’m going to try out battery versions (available from Lights4Fun).
Place cards and a hand-written menu is also a nice touch.
