Two new ‘Colours of the Year’ for you to consider today. Dulux has recently unveiled a “reassuring” earthy beige hue called Brave Ground as its colour of the year for 2021. While Benjamin Moore have selected Aegean Teal from their 2021 colour palette of comforting, sunbaked shades. Both companies have researched for a year before choosing their new colour ranges. A year long exploration into design, art, fashion, cultural and environmental influences around the globe. They then carefully curate a palette that balances modern-day relevance with long-lasting appeal. At the centre is one special hue that defines the palette and the moment: the Color of the Year.
Brave Ground from Dulux
This earthy beige hue has been chosen to connect us to nature and to bring a sense of warmth to our homes. And in this year of the pandemic, our homes are definitely getting a lot of our undivided attention.
“What has emerged from our trend forecast this year is that we’re all reassessing what really matters in our lives. We’re taking stock and finding a new and positive way forward by having faith in ourselves, working together, building on the past and planning for the future. It takes courage to embrace change and our homes can help provide a solid and supportive foundation, as well as giving us the scope to be creative”. says Dulux.
It’s certainly a neutral that will work perfectly when paired with darker browns, cinnamon, light beige hues and caramels. But Dulux have developed not one, but four colour palettes that will work with Brave Ground. The Earth Palette echoes the tones of the sea, sky, and the soil. The Trust Palette features warm greys and browns. The Timeless Palette consists of inspiring shades of yellows and ochres alongside soft neutrals. And the Expressive Palette is a collection of stand-out reds, pinks and other colours that can add verve and vitality to our homes.
Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director, Dulux UK, says: “The colours on our walls are the backdrop to how we live our life. For many of us, lockdown has served to emphasise how important our home environment has become, it has been the place where we work, learn, relax. It can lift us up, nurture us, comfort us”.
“Our homes provide a sanctuary: a place to restore, repair and recalibrate ourselves on the road to recovery.”
Aegean Teal from Benjamin Moore
The Benjamin Moore palette was chosen to celebrate the simple pleasures of home, which is pretty much the same sentiment. With perhaps an element of escapism thrown in?
“Think the faded rumple of linen sheets in the morning and perfectly ripened fruits on the windowsill. The twelve hues in the palette radiate warmth and wellbeing. These are colors that make your home feel even more like home“. says Benjamin Moore.
