The ultimate accessory for any boho chic household. The macrame wall hanging. Not since the seventies have these little beauties been so popular. You can’t deny their intricate workmanship. The hours of work that will have resulted in something so bold, yet so delicate. They can be as large as you like and make a stunning stand-alone centrepiece, or they can be part of a larger feature wall where they hang alongside art and other objet d’art. And as all micro-trends go, you can now get these cheaply on the high street too. But if it was me I’d commission one bespoke from one of the many sellers on Etsy and hang it with pride, centre stage. This really is a case of you-get-what-you-pay-for.

As part of a vignette of the ethnic, the handmade, and the tribal, this grey macrame wall hanging looks sensational hung off-centre. It’s colour complements the other earthy tones and it’s robust texture echos the chunky wood, basketware and pottery. Bloomingville Tassel Wall Hanging, £30 from Idyll Home.
Not technically macrame but the same principal, these wall hangings are much more sophisticated and colourful. The silken threads hark to the other micro-trend of putting a fringe on everything, but the simple string hangers make them altogether simpler and more casual.
