The Timeless Appeal of a Black Painted Kitchen

I’m absolutely certain in my mind, that my next kitchen will be painted black. I’ll have a black kitchen if I have to paint it myself. And while I do like to get the paintbrush out occasionally, I know from experience that painting a kitchen is a BIG job! That’s how committed I am. There’s just something so timeless about the combination of dark painted wood, marble, brass, and a white metro tile. A touch of wood doesn’t look out of place either, whether it’s a beautiful parquet floor or a oil worktop, or a vintage cabinet.

There’s actually not a metro tile in sight in the above kitchen by Burbridge. Instead tongue and groove panelling has been used as the splashback behind the sink. But it does have the white worktops (I think it’s Corian), brass cup handles, and a warm wooden floor. All components of that imaginary next kitchen in my head. The striped rug adds personality, as do all of the vintage ‘collected’ pieces.

A close-up of the sink area shows that a modern worktop works well with a traditional butler sink when the brassware is also vintage looking. And how lovely are the two shelves. Practical as well as beautiful, and they provide something to look at while doing the washing up.

Another example of how well this combination works, this time from Brayer Design. Again it’s a combination of traditional with a contemporary and ultimately practical white worktop. The glass fronted cabinets are also on my wishlist, and I love that it has no back so that the beautiful glazed tiles can be seen.

A more modern example of this style shows how you can combine black painted wall cabinets with wooden base units. The marble splashback and worktop bring the two finishes together nicely.

And another great example of my dream kitchen from Neptune. Yes, I know I’ve used this image before but it’s stuck in my brain like that song you can’t get rid of.

And of course when I get the black painted kitchen of my dreams I’m going to bake cakes. Not.
