THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

As the year draws to a close and the last of the turkey is tossed into the bin, here’s a look back to the most popular posts of 2020.

It’s been the Year of The Lockdown, in one way or another, and the popularity of the following posts surely reflect the kind of escapism that most of us have yearned for. Whether that takes the shape of a drop-dead gorgeous home, a country retreat, a summer house in the garden to escape to, or a spacious and family orientated kitchen.

1.  AN ELEGANT AND ECLECTIC CONVERSION IN A GEORGIAN TOWNHOUSE

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

No surprises that this gorgeous home came in at number one. Who wouldn’t want to get their hands on a 18th-century (Grade II-listed) Georgian townhouse apartment in Central London? I mean. Come on. Soaring high ceilings, large spacious rooms, and plenty of light are just some of the advantages. But the eclectic accessories, comfortable furnishings, and bohemain ambiance would make lockdown just that bit more bearable surely.  Read more

2. A CORNISH COUNTRY COTTAGE FULL OF BOHEMIAN INTRIGUE

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

At first sight this lovely cottage complete with a rambling rose over the doorway and a garden bursting with botanicals, might look like the quintessential rural retreat. But inside you’ll find jewel-like hues and vintage finds creating a modern bohemian vibe. That word again! This unique interior scheme would be cosy in winter hunkering down in front of the woodburner with a mug of hot chocolate, while in summer the outside hot tub enjoys sweeping views of the countryside. It has us all dreaming of the seaside holidays of our childhood – when we can go on holiday again that is. Read more

3. A SUMMER HOUSE FOR ALL SEASONS

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

This may be a summer house, but it seems to me it could be a summer house for all seasons. Somewhere to shelter from the weather, get a bit of peace and quiet to gather thoughts, and just get a different aspect on the garden for once. But this year, it would have mean’t somewhere quiet to work uninterrupted for once. And with a stove installed too, oodles of fairly lights, cushions and throws, this summer house could be just as warm and cosy as that overused armchair in the sitting room. Read more

4. LAKESIDE HOLIDAY COTTAGE TO LET IN NORFOLK

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

This post was a shameless plug for our own holiday cottage in Norfolk. And why not? I’m really happy that it made it into the top 10 posts for the year. A lot of people were looking forward to booking a summer or autumn break when the spring lockdown was lifted. And a lot of folk were choosing to holiday in the UK. Why risk crowds at airports, extra checks, and possibly reduced amenities at your destination abroad, when you can visit your own beautiful countryside instead? Read more

5. A BEAUTIFUL BASEMENT KITCHEN FULL OF LIGHT AND CHARACTER

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

This year more than ever before, we have all found a new connection to our kitchens, our homes and our gardens. We have noticed the good and the bad bits, the parts we enjoy and the really annoying things we don’t. And we have vowed to change them so we can make the very best of what we have. We have begun to appreciate just how important it is to make our homes comfortable and beautiful and easy to be in. Read more

6. A SIMPLE VINTAGE INSPIRED WORKSPACE – GET THE LOOK

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

This ‘Get The Look’ was published in January before the pandemic, but it obviously attracted attention during the year as we all adapted to working from home. It is a lovely calming, vintage inspired space that embodies the ethos of making the most of second-hand, reusing what’s around the house, and keeping it simple to promote a feeling of well-being. All things appropriate to 2020 more than ever. Read more

7. A VICTORIAN VILLA WITH MID-CENTURY VICTORIAN BOHO VIBES

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

And another gorgeous home that made it into the top 10. A Victorian villa, which is an architectural period that I love, full of the most wonderful collection of furniture and objects. But best of all, it’s a home of colour contrasts – I love the combination of dark juxtaposed with light, and the lush greenery dotted around too. Read more

8. A RENOVATED VICTORIAN VILLA THAT WAS A LABOUR OF LOVE

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

Another Victorian gem. This renovation was an epic task, and an absolute labour of love by its owners and Robert Rhodes Architecture. The owners had purchased an elegant wreck located in a South London conservation area with 8-bedrooms (now 5-bedrooms) that had previously been the home of a multi-generational family. The magnitude of the job meant that even basic renovation would cost a small fortune but against all the odds it was completed for less than £1000/m2. Now that’s encouragement for all of us. 9. ZOE BALL’S BEAUTIFUL NEW KITCHEN

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

Also popular was the beautiful new kitchen belonging to British television and radio personality, Zoe Ball and her family. When we think of Zoe Ball, we no doubt all think of fun and vibrancy. She is the very epitome of contagious positivity and enthusiastic joie de vivre. So it comes as no surprise that this is exactly what her kitchen conjures up too. It’s a kitchen that is full of personality and colour that has family at its heart. Art and treasures are all over the place and they make this room so inviting, you can just imagine the frivolity that goes on here. Frivolity that we needed in 2020. Read more

10. 2020 INTERIOR TRENDS – AND WHAT FEELS RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2020

Again, this post was published before the pandemic but must have struck a chord anyway – In uncertain economic times most of us cling to the familiar, and the things in our surroundings that comfort us. We certainly don’t want to be spending loads of cash. And at the same time we are on the cusp of a sea-change of opinion. We can no longer keep taking our planets resources for granted. Both of these things will influence what we do in our interiors, not only in the coming year but for many years to come Read more
