Teal Appeal – My New Colour Crush

Now that I’ve painted my stair walls in the deepest, lushest shade of teal, I’ve become slightly obsessed with the colour. Not a lot of light penetrates our two flights of stairs, especially the top flight, and I knew I was running the risk of creating a dark cave. But in actual fact the final result has been a rich, enveloping effect. Obviously, I’m not going to start introducing teal all over the house, but I thought it might be nice to investigate how this lovely jewel-like colour could work in other rooms.

Teal and velvet go together like strawberries and cream. It’s the perfect texture to show off the depth of this special colour. Inviting and cosseting, soft and comforting.

Proving that a little goes a long way this teal armchair also brings a touch of modernity and freshness to a traditional setting.

This is a darker shade than the one I’ve used but it shows the lovely cosy effect when used in a sitting room. The white ceiling and pale floor keep it just the right side of gloomy. And of course that stunning big window helps. I can imagine snuggling down here in the evening with a glass of wine and a book.

A lighter shade of teal in a sun room is not at all dark or gloomy. And in fact it will have a lovely cooling effect when the sun gets too strong. A perfect foil for Scandinavian type light wood furniture, a copper table and green plants.

A brighter shade of teal. Looking warm and welcoming with the addition of brass accents and a textured rug.

Teal as an Accent Colour

Sometimes just a touch is enough.
