I don’t know about you but I often find myself totally transfixed by the homes and interiors that appear in films and TV programmes, when I should in fact be watching the actors instead! It’s a bit of an occupational hazard I guess.
And of course (how could it not be?), my latest design crush is Mr Selfridge. Now on its third series, and leaving the Art Nouveau period behind with its heavy, dark woods, and hurtling towards the Art Deco era. A time in design history characterised by blond woods, lacquer, metal, chromed steel and glass. A period of metallic wall coverings, low sofas, coffee tables, and cocktail cabinets. So, so glamorous.

Not surprisingly this is undoubtedly going to influence interiors today and DFS Designer, Helen Leigh-Jones has some good tips for making it work in a contemporary interior.
“Combining the old with the new is a huge trend for 2015, and one which Art Deco lends itself to. To create a fusion of the classic and contemporary, mix traditional furniture shapes with sleek, modern, statement tables to bring the trend into the 21st century. Stick to a neutral colour scheme to keep your room looking classy.”
Don’t forget to add the accessories that add a touch of flamboyance. Silver photo frames, mirrors, statement vases, angular light fixtures and scatter cushions in luxurious fabrics.
