Muurmeesters is a Dutch company that prints (old) masterpieces, particularly in over-sized formats, on high quality fabric. And I think they are stunning. Great for creating impact in any room in the house, and I’m thinking one (or two, or three) would look stunning in my newly painted stairway. I do love a feature wall of different art in different frames, but I’d much prefer to have one big stand-out piece myself. I’ll have to start saving the pennies. I just can’t decide between a portrait, a still life or a landscape.
The company was founded by designer and photographer Sylvia Kieft. She had been fascinated as a child by the old Dutch Masters, but it was the power of a hugh print by Hendrik Voogd in her living room in 2015 that gave her the final push to start her own business. Initially only available in Holland, where they were soon gracing Dutch kitchens, living rooms, work spaces, restaurants, and bars, she launched her web shop in May last year. So now we can all have our own Dutch Master.
A browse of the Muurmeesters website will reveal there are 150 paintings to choose from including the Masters Vermeer, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Frans Hals and Breitner. And in almost any size up to 2 x 3 metres. They are framed in a solid aluminium frame which also means you can easily change one Dutch Master for another using the same frame. For, you know, the change of seasons, or occasion.
Prices for example are €288 for a 1 x 1 metre print. Delivery outside of Holland is 2-3 weeks.
Special thanks to the instagram account of @_finntage where I first spotted a fabulous oversized still life print against her dining room wall.
