With all eyes turning to Rio this summer it’s no surprise that a little South American flavour is creeping into the shops. Marks and Spencer is no exception. They have side-stepped the carnival atmosphere of Brazil, the Amazonian jungle inspired prints, and the Frida Kahlo portraits of Mexico (yes, alright I know Mexico is in Central America). Instead they have taken a much more considered approach from the land of the Incas. Yes, the patterns are bold and colourful, with aztec prints, weaves and cross-stitch aplenty. But they have kept their armchairs, rugs and cushions to a limited palette. Colours are muddier. Paired with plain fabrics, the spicier ingredients sing out. They have room to breathe.
