I’ve been doing a little market research over the weekend into luxury self-catering holiday rentals. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it! We’ll soon be renovating our own little holiday rental cottage and well, you know, it’s important to see what the competition is doing. Trouble is, I’m tempted to book every single one of them on the Unique Home Stays website. Unfortunately the budget only extends to looking, not booking, so I’ll have to content myself with sharing with you instead. Beware there may be a few of these posts!
Daydreamer, blissfully set on Freathy cliff in ‘Cornwall’s forgotten corner’, is a self-catering beach hut that is as seaside chic as they come.
It was once the home of a Sea Captain and has been lovingly passed down through his family for many decades. Luckily the latest generation have opened the doors of this beach hut to offer others a slice of their seaside sanctuary. Daydreamer is sublimely set on a cliff, in one of Cornwall’s lesser known holiday destinations, with unspoilt ocean views as far as the eye can see. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows blur the boundary between inside and out, filling the living area with natural light.
The maritime chic interior mirrors the ever-changing seascape. White clapboard walls (seriously considering adopting this for our own cottage) play host to French-inspired furnishings giving a nonchalant, boutique-style spin on traditional nautical interiors.
I love the way the accessories are picking out the colours of that beautiful painting. I’m also taking note of the practical considerations too like the enamel mugs and wire baskets. Things that are not easily broken are already on my shopping list.
I’m not really going to have a view to rival this though. Ours will be more of a countryside view. This one is breathtaking and I’ll bet it’s just as dramatic when the weather is stormy too. Imagine sipping on a flute of something bubbly with the salt spray on your face! The website says,
A beach hut holiday hot spot for years, Whitsand Bay has lost none of its vibrancy. The three mile expanse of golden beach is certainly spectacular, but the real treasures lie in the hidden gem coves dotted all around. Scamper down to Shallow Beach or Polhawn Cove for a sundown skinny dip and beach fire – don’t forget your marshmallows!
The wrap-around deck not only boasts areas for sitting and gazing but a hot-tub too which would be idyllic by moonlight.
It is tiny. But it has a lovely double bedroom with a cloudlike bed scattered with fluffy pillows and patterned throws.
And next door sits the en suite shower room complete with WC, basin and heated shower rail; a perfect place for post-beach pampering.
So, if we could drag ourselves away from the view, what would we do here? Long walks along the beach looking for shells and driftwood? Afternoons spent tucking into cream teas and ambling around one of the stately homes nearby? I’m sure we’d cope.
Property Owner Jane says, “As you step into the main living area, the vista of the sea stretching the total panoramic concourse of this majestic coastline from Looe Island to Rame Head gives you both morning sun and amazing sunsets. It´s during the winter months when I find these views most spectacular and invigorating.”
Available to book via Unique Home Stays.
