I had a conservatory once full of cacti. They were the only plants that would survive for longer than one season in that scorching sun soaked room. However, they were sharp and prickly booby traps for the unsuspecting visitor. And more than once I forgot to be careful and spent hours trying to extract spines from my arms, hands, or on one memorial occasion, my face. So although I love this trend for all things spiky and Californian influenced, I’m going to confine my cactus love these days to illustrations on the wall. Much safer to have a few framed prints, or in the case of the maximalists out there, crazy cactus print wallpaper.
