It’s been all about the kitchen for me this week. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know exactly what I mean. I’m in the process of looking for our next house and the top of my wish list is a big eat-in kitchen that will have space for entertaining. And everything else too. So I’m a bit obsessed with exactly how this next kitchen will look. And every deVOL kitchen I see, I want. And yes, I’ve featured their lovely Haberdasher’s kitchen before, but these are new images and they are a little bit lovely. Just perfect for a country kitchen look that is not too twee.
Take a Look
This kitchen is actually a display model at deVOL’s St. John’s Square showroom and is up on the top floor of their townhouse. It was was designed to feel like a private members’ club. The views out onto the old square from this vantage point are impressive and the designers loved the idea of sitting at the table watching the world go by with a cocktail and an old book.
Everyone loves a moody late night bar, so just imagine being able to create this atmosphere in your own home. The design all started with the curved wall by the cooker and the low windows, they
wanted to accentuate both these original features whilst still allowing room for all the necessary storage and appliances. This curved wall now has bespoke shelves and a slender brass rail, while the Bertazzoni cooker adds a metallic gleam. Intermingled with original fitted cupboards and lots of marble, this cooking area is handsome and practical.
A long island and a table are the places to admire the views. This meant the sink had to be on an interior wall, many may feel this is a compromise but that’s what designing a kitchen is all about and in this instance the seating took priority. However, with a marble sink of this size, the tactile feel and opulence makes the sacrifice hardly noticeable, in fact it is such a beautiful sink who needs any other distractions!
This room is also a great chance to see the beauty of the tambour style doors in the Haberdasher’s range. An awful lot is glazed. Base cupboards, pantries, doors and drawer fronts made from glass
so you can peek in and see the treasures inside. But a kitchen needs to be practical too. Not everything needs showing off! So the wooden tambour door which is heavily inspired by the popular midcentury tambour sliding doors is the answer.
The Haberdasher’s furniture is so unkitcheny yet so practical, with impeccably made cupboards that work so cleverly with other styles of furniture. And as always, deVOL have designed a kitchen that gives you more than just a kitchen. It gives you a lifestyle, and atmosphere. Hanging out in this Haberdasher’s Kitchen almost means you don’t need to actually go out.
Haberdasher’s Kitchens are all beautifully made by hand in deVOL’s Leicestershire workshops by skilled carpenters. Prices for a full kitchen start from £30,000.
