The recent big chill with snow and biting winds has certainly thrown a few extra things onto the ‘next home’ wishlist. Light and airy has always been on the list. So has a big, sociable kitchen with cooking, eating, and relaxing zones. But now I’ve clapped eyes on this Scandinavian home featuring the deVOL Haberdasher’s kitchen with a cosy log burning stove, I want one of those too! The log burner I’m talking about. Although I wouldn’t mind the Haberdasher’s kitchen too. I like it so much I’ve featured it here and here before.
Take a Look
This is the latest home renovation from Laura and Nora of ‘Our Food Stories’. It’s in Skåne, Sweden, where there are fishing boats in the harbour, perfect white sandy beaches, legendary apple blossoms and more than anyone’s fair share of charming little farmers’ markets and culture. These two ladies also happen to be the absolute experts at finding incredible houses in really special locations and renovating them with sympathy, love and style.
And this home is quite literally brimming with original features. Some were already there waiting to be loved again, while some were sourced especially. But you simply cannot tell which is which, and that’s a true testament to their impeccable taste and careful choices.
The kitchen is at the centre of this light and airy Scandinavian home. A home that comes with the ubiquitous whitewashed floorboards and ceilings, and a cool eclectic mix of vintage and midcentury furniture. All brought together with the lovely Haberdasher’s cupboards of course. These immaculate cupboards are slender and elegant but have a nostalgic feel that ensures they fit perfectly into a vintage home without feeling too contrived or new.
It’s in the Details
The slim glazed panels on the island, drawers and wall cupboard reflect light and create beautiful vignettes. While the aged copper worktops shimmer with the reflections of the unique and very handsome woodburning stove which gives this room the most incredible warm atmosphere. Hang on a minute, can you add that teddybear armchair to the ‘next home’ wishlist too?
The marble sink and the palest of pink marble worktops add some luxury and take this rustic home to another level. Making it comfortable, beautifully inviting and warm, but also quite glamorous and chic. And finally, take a look at that Aga, it’s simply fabulous with its old and quirky fittings. Just imagine a snowy weekend here, logs on the fire, sourdough in the oven and some tasty glögg keeping warm on the back of the Aga. Simple perfection.
The deVOL Haberdasher’s Kitchen is made by hand in their Leicestershire workshops by skilled carpenters.
Prices for a full kitchen start from £30,000.
