Since our lives these days are full of frenetic activity and multiple screens urging us to keep up, is it any wonder that a country idyll is what we most want for our holidays? I know it’s what I yearn for. Badly. Juneberry (which is available to rent on the Unique Home Stays website) is the epitome of escaping the rat race and getting back to nature. All while not giving up any of life’s luxuries either. Utter bliss. It was once the home of a self-sufficient farmer and has been rebuilt using sustainable materials to offer the kind of retreat that will soothe the soul and regenerate the spirits.

The one bedroom self-catering holiday home may be small but it has a big personality. The deep teal blue walls inject a moody glamour into what is essentially a wood cabin full of rough-sawn timber. The wall colour and the vintage floral curtains turn this into a welcoming and romantic getaway. Just the ticket for couples looking to slip away from the noise and breathe in the fresh country air.
All of the rooms open out onto the wrap-around deck. It’s elevated so the views across the Cornish countryside are breathtaking and life-affirming. There’s even a yoga deck (with mats and blocks) for your early morning sun salutation! Not to mention your evening gin and tonic. Come nightfall, you can toast marshmallows on the fire pit, wrap yourself in blankets and watch for shooting stars flying across the night sky.
The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need should you want to cocoon for a few days, and the sitting room has a deep comfy sofa and a log burner.
And bedroom is especially cosy, with the bed positioned to make the most of the views. Imagine long lie-ins sipping steaming coffee beneath the weight of the duvet. While the large bathroom is the perfect place to soak away coastal adventures with copper accents, a bath tub for two and walk-in rainfall shower.
Property Owner Bob says “Inspired by a true countryman who once lived on this spot, Juneberry was designed and created with a “make do and mend” ethos. Many of the materials used in the cottage are local or reclaimed, brought back to life with a little bit of love sprinkled on top.”
I could imagine this is the perfect place to escape to at any time of the year. Or maybe I’ll just stay all year.
Juneberry is available to rent on the Unique Homestays website.
