Summer is just around the corner and it’s the perfect time to start preparations for bringing the sunshine into the bedroom. It’s my favourite time of year and I love waking up to daylight, sunbeams and the promise of warm sultry days. I even get up earlier! And nothing is nicer than starting the day in a room that is light, bright and bursting with inspiration.
Clean and DeClutter
If you’re not already Marie Kondo’d out, use spring as the best excuse to get rid of unwanted clutter in the bedroom. Hide anything (clothes, boots, coats) that will not be needed for months yet and sell or donate to charity the things that will never get used again. And then clean. There’s nothing like a few rays of sun to highlight the dust. It’s now that I usually take the time to vacuum under the bed and behind furniture too. It’s a bit early to dump the winter duvet yet but it’s never too early to get it cleaned in preparation. The same goes for pillows and mattress protectors.
Maximise the Light
I’ve never understood the need for black-out blinds. Unless for small children of course. I crave light, and love being woken naturally by daylight. So summer for me, means no curtains at all if possible and I keep the windows sparkling clean. I also keep all windows free of obstacles so that I can fling them open whenever nights get warm.

Splash Out on New Bedding
Nothing cheers a room up more than an injection of bright colour or a splash of pattern. And new bedding can do that without breaking the bank. If you have a neutral decor, try adding a dash of dazzling colour for a change. Or opt for a cheery floral pattern that will really bring the garden in.
Bring in Some Plants
We’re only just appreciating the positive effects that humble houseplants can bring to our lives. Not only do they cheer a room up and make us happy, they also clean the air for us.

Change Up The Accessories
They say change is as good as a rest, and it’s true of our accessories at home too. If you always leave treasured items in the same place, they start to become invisible. So move things around and start appreciating them again. And then add a sprig of blossom and your collections will really start to sing.
Add a Floral Scent
Light, floral scents are always best for summer. I usually choose a diffuser for the bedroom. It’s safer than burning candles and will last for around three months. The rewards are a sweet perfume every time you pass, and every time the breeze wafts through the window (open of course).
