The time eventually comes, no matter how much we all deny it will happen, when our little darlings grow up and get minds of their own.

The super hero wallpaper that they loved two years ago (I know, I know, you didn’t want to give into that one in the first place did you?) is now embarrassing in front of their friends and the frilly pink lampshades (that you secretly liked) are now too girly, girly.

The trick is to choose wallpaper for their rooms now that will appeal to grown-ups too but is a bit edgy and urban into the bargain.  I guarantee that teenage boys will love the following scenes of London and New York and probably some girls will too.  Add a few metal lockers instead of wardrobes and some neon signs and they will be proud to bring their friends round.

Teenage girls can be very fickle and like to be treated as older than they really are, so add a little glamour to the bedroom scheme but in a subtle non vampish way.

Add some glossy black furniture and mirrors and she might even keep her bedroom tidy.

Of course it might be a shared bedroom in which case something retro?

Oh, and the beauty of keeping it black and white is that you can ring the changes with coloured accessories.
