For me, it’s very important that the bedroom is the one room in the house that is calming and peaceful.  It’s a place for sleeping, dreaming, reading and romance, and the occasional afternoon nap.  The TV is banned in our bedroom at home.

So it’s equally important that it is neat and tidy with plenty of storage.  There is nothing peaceful and calming about clearing the bed of yesterdays clothes before sliding between the sheets and sinking into oblivion!

Storage doesn’t have to be purpose-built so long as it is sufficient for all your needs. There are lots of shops now dedicated to finding a storage solution for even the smallest of our possessions and there is plenty of advice available about how to make the best use of space.  I have a free-standing wardrobe at home but I have stacked shoe boxes under the hanging space so that my shoes are easily accessible and I have hung hooks on the insides of the doors for my jewellery.  Whatever works for you.

It’s always advisable to have at least one chest of drawers for folded items and your ‘smalls’ and anyway the top provides a fabulous excuse to display some of your prettiest things.  Turn it into a dressing table with a mirror and a vase of fresh flowers.  An indulgence but hey, you’re worth it.

Make sure that your bedside tables have storage too.  That way they become multifunctional and you always have to hand the things that you need without even leaving the bed.

It’s always worth considering storage beds too.  The space under a bed can then be put to good use for your out of season clothes or extra bedding.

And now that you have sorted out the bedroom storage I guarantee you the best nights sleep you’ve ever had.

I am a bit of a tidy freak and I do like a little wander down the isles of a certain stationery store from time to time looking for anything that might make life that little bit more organised.  So imagine my excitement on discovering that Martha Stewart, that award-winning, bestselling, inspiring pioneer of practical stylish living is now available at Staples.

Yes, it’s true!  No longer do us Brits have to worship from afar, growing more and more envious of our cousins across the pond who have Martha on tap.  We can now pop down to our local Staples to stock up on a very versatile collection of Martha Stewart Home Office products to organise all those cluttered areas of our homes.

The whole range is finished in soft blues and warm chocolate browns to mix and match and a beautiful shagreen style finish to add just a touch of elegance.

I might need a basket next time I visit.  Or maybe a trolley?

What else is there to do on a rainy Saturday afternoon?

Some of my favourite images this week from all of those lovely blogs out there.

This weeks Sunday surf brings you my five favourite things from the latest Plumo collection.

And each and every one would make a great mother’s day gift!  Hint,

Always a favourite website to browse, and new stock gets me very excited.  Here are my five favourites…

Black and tan storage trunks for some Hollywood glamour. High heels, tissue wrapped clothes and champagne compulsory.

A ceramic bowl with little perching birds.  A nice addition for that Easter table maybe?

I’ve always wanted a ladder towel rail and this one looks perfect.

I’ve included these pretty lights just because they’re pink of course.

I would like this in my office to store all of my stationery. If only I had the room, if only.

Graham and Green

Dear Designers’ Sunday afternoon surf brings you her five absolute favourite things (well, this week anyway) from Graham and Green.

Ok, so I know we’ve been here before…but they are my favourite shop…

DD has been obsessed with the Eiffel Tower shape for a long, long time.  And now its a lamp!  And a very stylish one too.

Pink.  And distressed.  Does it get any better than that?

Now, this is not so expensive that I couldn’t put it on my Christmas list…Go on, tell me you’re not already thinking about Christmas?

What can I say?  I want…

I think they should give me a big discount.

What do you say Graham and Green?

Dear Designers’ Sunday afternoon surf brings you her five absolute favourite things from Eastern Influence.

Now anyone who regularly reads this blog will know,  DD loves a hint of global decoration…

A room that contains treasures from foreign shores just seems a little bit richer somehow.  As if the room itself has stories to tell… secrets to unfold… memories to unleash.

If only you can stay long enough to let the tale begin…

Dear Designers’ Sunday afternoon surf brings you her five absolute favourite things from Baileys Home and Garden.

The ultimate in recycling……..

So comfy looking.  I could do my Sunday surfing from here easily……….

Something so pleasing about the worn shinyness……….

Cute……….

So that I could fantasize some more over beautiful pictures and know I was saving the planet too!
