Yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that, were such grey dismal days that I just want to look at some pretty pictures today.

And pictures don’t get any prettier than the ones here from the portfolio of interiors stylist Vicky Sullivan.

This is just a small selection from her impressive portfolio but these were the ones that spoke to me.  They seem to convey the mood I’m feeling this morning.  A desire to stay cosy indoors with comforting tea and cake.

To perform mundane, familiar tasks like washing up and tidying away.  Sorting and re-arranging and just generally pottering around the house.

Do you have days like that?

Fiona Barratt interiors was founded in 2006 and designs high-end, international residential and commercial interiors.

Her philosophy behind creating fluid and elegant spaces is that they are born of understanding the aspirations of the client, the relevance of the location and maximising the potential of the existing elements of the space.  Then add in imagination and vision and the result is an interior that tells a story in relation to its location, the consideration of the four walls in which it exists, and most importantly reflects in essence the client’s individuality…

A successful interior should enhance, not dictate the way you live“.

And as if these beautiful interiors don’t keep her busy enough, Fiona is opening her first retail store in London in June on the Pimlico Road called FBC London.

Do you ever wish you could wave your magic wand and a team of elves would descend and turn your home into your dream home?

Well, they may not be elves but the team at Increation can certainly take care of the designing, the planning, the project management, the building, the plumbing and especially the cabinet making. From visualising the big picture, to finessing the small details; you hand over your home to them and they hand it back to you; finished.

Established a little over ten years ago by Vincent Cullane, an experienced and dedicated cabinetmaker and furniture designer, they now offer bespoke kitchens and bathrooms as well as the full interior designer service and don’t the pictures just speak for themselves?

*Sigh*

If there is one room in the house where you want to feel warm and cosy and cosetted, it’s the bedroom.  Like any other room in the house these days, it often has to multitask but whether it’s a place to sleep, feel romantic, watch TV (a complete no no in my house), or read a good book it’s important that it’s comfortable.

There can never be enough layers in my book.  So, once you have decided on the basics like a good mattress and the style of headboard you prefer, you can then start to add the luxurious details.

1. Nothing beats the feel of natural cotton or linen for sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases.  The higher the cotton thread count, the more expensive but also the most indulgent.  Buy the best you can afford.  There is a hugh range at Yorkshire Linen.

2. The number of pillows is down to personal choice but always have an extra one for when you are sitting up in bed.  There’s something very comforting (and supportive) about having a mound of pillows to lie back on.

3. A throw or two at the end of the bed is more than just decorative.  Think of those afternoon naps when you want to ward off the chill without actually getting into bed?  A throw is great for snuggling under and on those extra chilly nights is an extra warm layer.

4. Extra decorative pillows.  Just because they add the finishing touch to a well dressed bed.  They can add colour, pattern and texture to a room and yes, you do have to throw them off when you get into bed at night but they are so worth it.

5. A bedside rug.  To wriggle the toes in on those cold winter mornings.

Who could resist sharing these gorgeous images from Ikea?

A bohemian beautiful bedroom, with bright
colours and a harmony of flowers and stripes on the soft inviting
bed. Ready for a modern-day Marie Antoinette perhaps, with a penchant
for fashion, charm and beautiful things?

Like a dutch still life; gorgeous spring flowers in a jewel-like purple vase that contrasts beautifully with the muted tones of the rough plaster and unadorned window.

Not sure about you, but the little glimpses of sunshine over the past few days have put a new spring in my step.  I’ve even seen a few signs of daffodils pushing their way through the mud in the garden.  And so thoughts are turning to spring cleaning and sorting out and maybe buying a few new things for the home.

New sheets always feel like a treat at this time of the year, and while I am a great lover of white, I am tempted by these offerings from Designers at Debenhams.

Which is your favourite?  I think I’m leaning towards John Rocha.

Last weekend the Heart Home team went to the first Meetthebloggerstockholm event.

The schedule was packed with inspirational talks from Will of Bright Bazaar, Thea and Toni Neubauer, the editors of Sister Mag, and of course Heart Home :-) And there were workshops from the lovely Jeanette Lunde of FrydDesign about photography styling and others that I sadly didn’t get to go to about SEO and creating inspiration boards. You can see all of the photo’s over on the official website.

One of the highlights of the trip, it has to be said, was the Scandic Grand Central Hotel.

Grand Central, facade, day1

We couldn’t have had a warmer welcome and the fact that it’s open to Stockholm residents as well as hotel guests means that the bar, restaurant and bistro is vibrant and bustling.  In fact there is live music 3 to 5 days a week.

The interior was designed by one of Stockholm’s most prestigious architecture firms, Koncept and we loved the muted colour schemes, the artwork that used lines from well-known songs and the gorgeous bathroom tiles.

And if that wasn’t enough the food was exceptional.

Oh, and one other thing that you might be interested to know.  The Scandic Grand Central has a ‘Bloggers Inn’ which was developed with the help of Frida Ramstedt of Trendenser.se.  The room’s amenities and fixings are carefully tailored to the needs of digital entrepreneurs.

We’ll definitely be going back to make use of that!

I don’t know about you but once Christmas and New Year are over, the decorations are put away, and thoughts start to turn to how else to freshen up the house.  I get a sudden and unfamiliar urge to clean.  And I don’t just mean a desultory dust and mop either.  I mean a proper move all the furniture, take the curtains down and make the windows start to gleam kind of clean.

It’s not even as if we are anywhere approaching spring yet!  Maybe it’s just a desire to put everything back into order and look forward instead of back?

Feather and Black - The French Trend 2

I’ve been saving these images of this French inspired collection at Feather and Black but now it’s time to share them.  I think it’s the simplicity that appeals to me.  The rooms look as if all they need is a good sweep to clear away the cobwebs.  The curtain-less windows would be sparkling with little effort and the bed-linen will smell of fresh air and promises.

The collection is called Amelie and I love its vintage appeal and freshness.  Perfect for looking forward to spring.

As I look out of the windows at another grey miserable day I feel blessed that I have a room in my house where plants will flourish.  Building a conservatory on the back of the house was one of my better decisions, and it is always filled with light even if it’s only for a few short hours at this time of the year.

Just take a look at these lovely images from Finnish website Ullamaija Hanninen and then try to imagine them without the green.  They would still be undeniably handsome but it’s the living, breathing plants that really make the rooms so inviting.

I can’t promise you that plants will look this good in every room in every house.  They do need lots of light to look this green and healthy but just try to add one or two to a window ledge and see how they brighten up your day.
