Summer Stripes and Blue and White
I hope you’re spending lots of time in the garden my lovelies. At home we are taking every opportunity to enjoy our dinner outside on the new deck. It just seems to make the day seem so much longer when you make the most of the lighter nights. And the added bonus is that every evening feels like we’re on holiday. So much so that I don’t ever want the summer to end!
BHS. Vintage pressed glass tumbler £3.00. Retro large tagine £14.99. Retro egg rack £2.99. Retro round (set of 2) £24.99. Water hyacinth (set of 4) placemats £12.00. Essential napkins £4.99. Viners Element Grace 32 piece cutlery set £35.00. Essential oceanic (3 pack) £5.99.
We’ll soon be having our first guests to join us and I’ve been looking at some of the tableware currently in the shops to add some colour and personality to the table. And if a holiday vibe is what you’re after you can’t go wrong with a blue and white scheme. Just think of Aegean seas and whitewashed villages. Or New England clapboard houses and cobalt blue skies.
And if you have lots of white dishes already in the cupboard (as I do) it’s very easy to add just a few additional items in blue and white to start a whole new look. I’m probably looking for a couple of serving dishes, a new jug and some striped napkins. Oh, and maybe a lantern and a couple of cushions. But if you want to go the whole hog you can even splash out on a new indoor/outdoor rug, a few throws for when the evening chill sets in, or a new set of glasses to sup from.
House of Fraser, Dinner plate £8. Side plate £6. Bowl £6. Jug £20. Placemat £12. Coaster (set of 2) £12. Napkin (set of 2) £12. Napkin rings (set of 4) £20. Alhambra Platter £25. All available from September.
And this is a look that crops up every summer, so fear not. You won’t have to throw it all out and start again next summer…you can just buy a few blue night light holders, a new striped tablecloth, some new platters…..
