Soft Furnishings for Summer
I know you have sorted out your summer outfits by now but what do you do about soft furnishings around the house at this time of year. Do you have a ‘summer wardrobe’ that comes out in the warmer months? Maybe cotton instead of velvets and wool, or linen instead of tapestries and brocades? It’s so easy to ring the changes with just a few new cushions and throws and it just makes the whole house look cleaner and fresher don’t you think?
There’s just something altogether self indulgent about perusing all the new bedding ranges and investing in some new crisp cotton bed linen. The duvet comes off and a light quilted bedspread goes on with freshly ironed flat sheets.I have blinds but I love the thought of those flimsy curtains in the image above wafting in the summer breezes and of course that mosquito net that is evocative of summer holidays and exotic locations.
One day too I’m going to invest in some linen sheets. I love the simplicity of the bedroom above. It looks uncontrived but supremely comfortable. I wouldn’t mind waking up there or snuggling down at the end of a hard day with a good book.
The other area that gets some attention in summer of course is the garden.
It’s another room of the house after all and it should be made as comfortable as possible with piles of cushions and maybe a throw or two to ward off the evening chills. Doesn’t the seating area above look conducive to an afternoon nap?I can imagine afternoons turning into evenings with the lighting of the lanterns and the pop of champagne corks.
And although the seating area in this image is a lot more formal looking I quite like the way the seat cushions and pillows are colour coordinated. Something that is easy to achieve even on a budget. For some cushion ideas have a look at the cushion designs from K&Co
Don’t you just love summer?
