Our Country Cottage – The Master Bedroom

Brimstone Cottage - The Master Bedroom [f]

I have to say the master bedroom at the cottage has the best view in the house. It’s the same view as the living room, granted, but being just that bit more elevated makes all the difference. I could hang out of that window all day watching the antics of the resident geese.

So what did we do in here?

As in every other room the furniture has been upcycled. We inherited some very ugly orange pine when we bought the place and it’s all now a very nice deep shade of grey. Farrow and Ball Pumice, for those who are interested. It has a large-ish built in wardrobe in the corner, so as it’s a quite snug room it just needed the two bedside cabinets. They both have drawers so it’s ample storage for a three to seven day stay which is the average booking length.

I had fun shopping for the accessories I have to say. I love the grey linen valance, the vintage looking chandelier and the faux oil paintings mounted on canvas. I say they’re faux but really I have no idea. I bought seven in total as a job lot from a local antiques shop and they only cost £30 in total so I’m assuming they were mass produced somewhere.

One thing we did want to replace however was the mattress. I’ll think you’ll understand why. It looked quite new actually, but it was far from comfortable, and when Eve Mattress offered me a mattress to try out I couldn’t have been happier. We’ve been sleeping on it now for a couple of months whenever we are there working on the renovations, and it’s been a godsend. I say sleeping, but actually we have been falling into the bed after working 12 hour days and literally passing out. All down to the mattress, not the tiredness. It’s the most comfortable thing I’ve ever had the pleasure to spend the night on. Without doubt.

Being a holiday cottage it’s important that guests enjoy a good nights sleep and we’re confident now of good reviews.

If you are tempted to try a memory foam mattress for yourself, I’d urge you to try this one from Eve.  They offer a 100 night trial with no obligation and also interest free credit too. What do you have to lose? It’s also so deep it has the added advantage of elevating the sleeper to a position where they can enjoy the view out of the window. All the better to keep an eye on the geese.

I also couldn’t resist playing with the yellow theme for the purposes of the photo’s. It’s such a striking colour it’s a shame to put a sheet over it. And because the BF brings me breakfast in bed every morning like this. Not.

Eve Mattess kindly provided the mattress FOC for the purposes of this review but all views are my own.

Brimstone Cottage is available to rent for short breaks here.

    Hi Carole,
Thanks for sharing! I found your blog from a comment on another blog. I got a fantastic idea from your post. Upcycling furniture. We have some really old but sturdy furniture we inherited from my dad. I did not want to throw them out but I did not really know what to do with them. Now I have an idea. I’ll change the colour! I’m thinking of black..

I can just imagine how comfortable that bed would be! I’m yet to try a bed with memory foam.

Thanks Stacey. We’ve grown quite attached to the place ourselves. But it’s for guests we keep telling ourselves 🙂

You must be good sleepers as that roller blind does not provide much darkness!

I think it’s all down to preference Rachel. Personally I like to wake up to daylight. We don’t get enough of it in this country 🙂
