Introducing Olli Ella – A Nursery Brand That’s Not Just for Kids
I’m not a big lover of nursery furniture or themed kids rooms. They are not only totally impractical – as we know, children grow out of things so fast – they are also of questionable taste at times. I must admit I’ve succumbed to the pressure in the past, but doing some recent research for a looming project I came across Olli Ella. And at last. A nursery brand that’s not just for kids.

Founded in 2009 by sisters Chloe and Olivia Brookman, Olli Ella draws inspiration from their children and from their own childhoods. The designs are nostalgic, but at the same time modern, capturing the hearts and admiration of parents, children and design influencers (that’s me!). And just like me, they believe that just because something is made for a nursery, it needn’t look out of place elsewhere. No wonder they have built up a loyal following in the UK where Olivia lives, and in Australia where Chloe lives. Oh, the joys of the internet and skype.
Pom Pom Basket, £35. Cacti Art Print, £19.50.
And just like me, they like to incorporate into their collections a wink to their travels abroad, from Nepalese felt wool rugs, and Moroccan-inspired bedding collections. No wonder I’ve fallen in love with practically everything on the site.
Rug on Wall, £245. Rug on Floor, £225. Lidded Baskets from £29.
So, a bit more about the sisters, because we all like a good success story. Before starting Olli Ella, Chloe and Olivia studied design and art history, and opened a small, quaint art gallery in the heart of London, specialising in 20th century works. Their love of mid-century art translated into this era-inspired furniture design, when they designed and made a nursing chair for Chloe when she was expecting her first baby. This project blossomed and Olli Ella was born, launching the following year with three nursing chairs and a baby bedding collection shortly after.
Hanging Book Basket, £20. Wall Hanging, £25. Tribal Baskets from £32.50.
“While we are admittedly a kooky bunch at Olli Ella, we are serious about quality. We manufacture all of our nursery furniture and baby bedding in England and Australia using the finest materials. And when we do import from overseas, we hand-pick suppliers who are fair trade and share our ethos of quality and attention to detail”.
