Bleached Out Brilliance from Mineheart
I’ve fallen in a big way for the new ‘Almost White’ wallpaper collection, designed by Brendan Young and Vanessa Battaglia for Mineheart. It’s inspired by the faded grandeur of an 18th century chateaux but, as with all things Mineheart, all is not what it seems.
The designers have cleverly taken a selection of their existing designs and given them a new bleached treatment which artfully distresses them. Instead of a sepia tinted take on days gone by, their designs have a ghostly dream-like feel to them, making them both old and new, traditional and contemporary at the same time.
“The designs in the ‘Almost White’ collection are more like reminders of wallpapers than wallpapers. There is something there that evokes the same emotions as before, but in a more illusive way. The effect gives a greater feeling of light and space to a room — it is ethereal, almost heavenly”. Brendan Young, Mineheart.
This collection, as with much of Young and Battaglia’s work, is full of subtle detail and wit. The Love Letter design, previously scribled on concrete, is here scrawled across whitened paper giving it the look of a long lost letter from a sweetheart, discarded and bleached by the sun.
The Delft Baroque design (top) gives the impression of stucco plasterwork or embellished wallpaper that has been worn away by generations of bodies brushing past it.
“We like to play with the idea of the stories behind the products, in our minds they are a cross between what you would find in a fairytale and a museum.” Vanessa Battaglia.
The Love Letter in White is £126 per roll and the Baroque Delft is also £126 per roll, all other designs are £70 per roll, available from www.mineheart.com.
