Affordable Updates for Autumn
September is here and soon the nights will really be drawing in. I don’t know about you but the change of seasons always makes me feel that I should make changes to more than just my wardrobe.
It’s time to get the throws and woolly cushions out. To pile up the logs (this one is just in my imagination by the way) for the fire and make the sitting room cosy. And it doesn’t have to cost the earth either. Just adding a few new accessories is the equivalent of buying a new scarf or lipstick, it livens up what you already have and makes you feel good.

One of the looks that I always seem drawn to is what I usually call French country. It’s comfortable without being stuffy and it can be formal or as relaxed as you like. All it takes is some distressed wood, lots of cool linens, natural textures and a relaxing, neutral colour palette. Add a few spindly legs and candlesticks, a vase of autumn flowers and a bowl full of apples (optional).

Another all time favourite is what I call Modern Ethnic. It draws more that a little inspiration from Africa and can be colourful or more restrained on the colour front.
This look is all about mixing primitive pottery, leather, canvas, wood and graphic prints. Just add a few references to animals, a bowl of tribal beads and candlelight.
