A New-England Style House with Inside/Outside Living
I’ve been stalking the Light Locations website again. Only this time it’s a New-England style house in West Sussex that has caught my fancy. With its spacious open-plan kitchen and dining space opening out via bi-fold doors to a deck that spans the width of the house, it’s probably everyone’s dream of country living by the sea. It also has a generous living room that opens onto the deck and a master bedroom with a large balcony looking over the garden. Can it get any better?
And the internal decoration doesn’t disappoint either. It does take a lot of inspiration from our cousins over the pond with beachy striped fabrics, wicker chairs, white panelling and wide oak floorboards. I also like the long scrubbed wooden table with metal tolix chairs and the white metal bar stools at the counter. They clearly entertain a lot of people here! Note the triple pendants over the counter and the table. Symmetrical but of different styles. Proving that you don’t have to match everything in a room.
The only departure from the New-England style is the tiles on the splash-back. More of a Moroccan design but they don’t jar at all. In fact they add extra interest and because the colours are muted they do blend in with the overall scheme.
An extra breakfast table in the corner of a kitchen is always a good idea don’t you think? For those times when you just have two for breakfast, or you just want to enjoy a cup of coffee while you write the shopping list.
Continuing the theme into the living room and bedroom. Stripes have been changed to blue but they have been set against a grey linen fabric which makes them more subtle. Extra touches of blue have been dotted around the rooms. And if I lived in a house like this I’d definitely have a window seat for quiet moments reading, and that early morning cup of tea watching the sun rise.
