You may remember that last year I stayed with the wonderful Maryam from My Marrakesh fame at her beautiful guest house Peacock Pavilions just outside of Marrekesh.

At the time I couldn’t post about the interior of Maryam’s amazing home because it was soon to be photographed for Elle Decor.  But the issue is out and so now I can!  So drink in all this gorgeousness and believe me when I say that the photographs, beautiful as they are, still don’t do it justice.

This is just a small corner of the main sitting room, looking through to the dining room.   The centre of the room has a large indoor fountain that is filled with roses.  This is where we sat as Maryam revealed the secrets of Moroccan design and shared the provenence of her collections.

The terrace is where we had breakfast each day.  A feast of fruit, yoghurt and homemade tarts and bread.  A huge olive tree that was in situ before the house was built offers welcome shade.

Every single corner of the house is filled with treasures and objects of interest.  Every story is incredible and awe inspiring.

I like to dress the pieces (furniture) up with throws and belts and beads and sometimes a combination of everything,” she says. “I have a very fashiony approach to design.”

Isn’t this corridor striking?  It looks out onto the pool.

And this is Maryam’s bedroom, which we didn’t actually get to see but looks exactly as I would have imagined it.

And if you do decide to visit Peacock Pavilions, which I cannot recommend highly enough, you may get to sleep in the guestroom above.  If you don’t, worry not,  every guest room is equally stunning.

You can read the full story of how Maryam and Chris created this beautiful retreat over on Elle Decor and if you are craving more tips on Moroccan design Maryam has a book out coming out called  (Marrakesh by Design, published by Artisan Books, available mid-May).

Personally, I can’t wait to go back!

I had a lovely little parcel waiting for me when I got back from New York this week.

A very sophisticated black box with cream edging and tied with a cream bow.  In fact the reverse of the colours that we know and love from Jo Malone London.

And inside was a Scent Surround Diffuser in one of my favourite fragrances – Red Roses.  A very sleek, understated bottle with black rods that will look very elegant on my mantlepiece.

I always use a diffuser at home.  The intensity of the perfume can be controlled so easily.  Just one or two sticks will give a very subtle background scent that can be enjoyed for months and months and more sticks can be used on those occasions when a more intense fragrance is required.

It’s also just one of a selection of new products that Jo Malone have introduced this spring to their Home Collection.  There are also Scent Surround room sprays, drawer liners and sachets.

So thank you Jo Malone London.  My house now smells divine!

Spring.  The perfect time to get out the paint and brushes to freshen up the home.  And if you’re anything like me you are already checking out the new wallpaper collections for some inspiration.

So today, I thought I’d share with you the latest wallpapers from Graham and Brown designed by one of my favourite designers – Julien Macdonald.

Flutterby – a very spring-like profusion of butterflies dancing across the wall in bright colours.  Perfect for bringing a breath of fresh air into any interior.

Glitz – not for the faint hearted.  A bold stripe with just a hint of sparkle.

Easy Tiger – bang on trend.  A big cat print with a flock finish.  Not very spring-like admittedly but doesn’t it look great with bright white woodwork?

Fabulous – Tropical florals embellished with metallic detailing.  Hot, hot, hot!

Jewel – My favourite.  Intricate, lacy diamond shapes with iridescent enhancements.

Hand me the paste brush!

We are all back home now and New York will soon become a real memory.  I will be forever grateful to Veronika and Tim from Modenus for allowing me to be a part of this trip and for making it such a wonderful experience for us all.

A lot of the bloggers on the trip were already friends but we now have good friends in California, Orlando and Berlin as well as all of the wonderfully hospitable people we met in New York itself.

Over the weekend we did a few touristy things…

The Highline.  Well worth a visit if you’re ever in New York.  Thank you Susan Cohen from Leaf Magazine for the tour.

A three hour cruise around Manhattan with champagne and afternoon tea served on board.  Thanks Veronika!

And a trip to New York wouldn’t be complete without a stroll through Central Park especially when the blossom is out.

BlogTour NYC by Modenus.

Probably my favourite day of the trip.

BlogTour NYC by Modenus.

A walking tour of the SoHo district visiting a selection of shops especially curated for us by the wonderful Amy Dragoo of ABCD Designs.  It was a chance also to take in the atmosphere of this fabulous city.

The shops we visited: The New Traditionalists, Canvas Home Store, Calypso Home, Clic Gallery, Paula Rubenstein, Michele Varian, Ochre, Hastens (where I won a hammock!), Flair Home.

And then the highlight of the entire trip was a visit to Jonathan Adler where we not only got a tour of the offices and a peek into the great man’s empire but we got to meet the man himself.  And he even threw a pot for us!

As the temperature in New York rises, there is no let up in the pace…

BlogTour NYC

A little peek at the soon to be open One 57 building on Central Park.  Kitchens by Smallbone, appliances by Miele and promised views to die for.

The Architectural Digest Show.  So much to see and absorb, exhibitors to discover and sponsors to meet.

And back to the show for the DIFFA Dining by Design cocktail party.

And as the mercury goes up and up, we are exhausted but not defeated.

So much to take in….a blur of sights and sounds and tastes and experiences…

Brunch hosted by Poggenpohl and Blanco America.  A chance to see the new products up close and enjoy delicious food.

A tour of the D & D building.  We visited just a few of the beautiful showrooms including Lorin Marsh, Fortuny, Donghia, Maya Romanoff, Anichini, Scube Design and had afternoon tea at De Le Cuona.

Dinner (yes more food) hosted by Miele and cooked for us by top chef Adam Schop – with a little help from Mr Bazaar.

 So much more to follow…

It can’t have missed your attention that the spring issue of Heart Home magazine was published last week! As per usual the last couple of weeks leading up to publication date passed in a haze of long hours and late nights as we tried our hardest to give you an issue that we are proud of and that you (our readers) will find inspirational.

By Thursday evening, all I wanted to do was collapse in a heap with a glass of something nice and not think about anything at all - cue the lovely ladies at Dalani who invited a group of press and bloggers to the studio of Clarissa Hulse for an evening of champagne and screen printing.

I have always been a fan of Clarissa’s lovely colourful designs and it was a pleasure to meet her and her team and even nicer to meet them in the very studio where her cushions, throws and lampshades are hand-printed onto silk and linen.

We had a lovely evening as we all tried our hand at printing our own cushion covers before hanging them on the line with our name tags attached.  Just like at school!  I can’t wait for my finished cushion to arrive in the post.

So thank you Clarissa, her girls and the lovely ladies at Dalani, we had a blast.

For anyone not familiar with Dalani they are an online homewares and life-style shopping club where registered members can benefit from exclusive sales of established and emerging homeware brands with discounts of up to 70%.

And please excuse my pathetic attempts at photography that evening – blame it on the champagne!

Heart Home magazine, issue 3 is now out!

Next up, in the line of wonderful BlogTour NYC sponsors is Blanco America.

A family owned business established in 1925, Blanco’s humble beginnings included making copper parts for cookers and hot water bottles. Today they have produced more than 40 million sinks and are recognized as a world leader of quality kitchen products.

They are rightly proud of their reputation for unsurpassed service, quality and innovation but you only have to look at their products to know that they also recognize that performance and good looks can, and should go hand in hand.

Their Truffle range of sinks and taps look luxurious and fashionable. The taupe shade works with both warm and cool shades in the kitchen and they bring out the natural beauty of stone countertops.

The Solon composting system integrates seamlessly with the countertop so that you hardly know it’s there. It traps odors inside and is incredibly easy to install so that you don’t have to re-do your kitchen to incorporate composting into your life.

And the Culina tap is the ultimate chef’s faucet. It looks elegant and it has a magnetic hook that stops it getting tangled up.

Something tells me I need a new kitchen.

Other Blogtour NYC sponsors include: Miele, Samuel Heath, Du Verre Hardware, Rotsen Furniture, MMPI (organisers of AD show 2012), Scholtes, Poggenpohl Kitchens, Spirit of Sports, Victoria and Albert Baths, Jenn Air, Big Ass Fans, Modern Aire, Mix Magazine.
