I don’t think I’m the only one obsessed by letters at the moment.  They are perfect for adding personality and individuality to a room.  So I was very excited to find The Letteroom website where absolutely everything is about letters!

Here are my five favourites from the Decorative Home section…

What would you write on your wall?

My favourite images this week from all those lovely blogs out there.

And as it’s Halloween weekend, there might be a little theme going on here…

At this time of year, with thoughts turning to cosy nights in, how about these gorgeous lamps from Kinzig Design to turn dark corners into glamorous boudoirs?

Karen and Susan Kinzig are sisters in law and design partners and they create sexy table and floor lamps, featuring hand-blown glass, with handmade silk shades in their signature Modernist and Art Deco style shapes.

Or how about creating some drama to welcome your visitors this winter?

Emerging Designer Stacy Harshman from Andarina Designs was inspired by antique swizzle sticks to create these stunning pendents.  Can’t you just see them hanging in a double height entrance hall?

Let there be light!

Katherine Pooley’s portfolio is diverse and simply stunning.

From London penthouses, to Scottish castles, to  airy Thai houses, to Colorado lodges. Katherine has lived in five countries and travelled to over 200 and the influence of all of these different cultures is evident in her designs.  Truly beautiful.

Well, almost a week.

Five days of relaxation in rural France.  Crisp, sunny, autumn days and a cosy, chilly nights.

Plenty of hearty meals, mellow red wine and mature cheese.

Days exploring pretty villages with oh, so many blue shutters and the remains of the summer blooms.

And yet more days exploring the chateaux and turrets and medieval fortresses and then…

in a pretty, leafy town square, we spotted this little interiors shop with three storey apartment above.  And it was FOR SALE!!

*Sigh*

Katja Behre is the Designer and Creative Director of Elli Popp, whose work features a range of neo-romantic designs for wallpapers, fabrics, ceramics, wall stickers and rugs.

Her wallpaper designs can be used alone or…

or combined with other designs…

to create a truly bespoke scheme.

And if you look closer at her pattern repeats you mind find some surprising elements!

What better start to the day than propped up in bed, a pot of coffee, the sun streaming through the window and a new book?

The Joy of Home by Naomi Cleaver

I was invited to hear Naomi talk at the Design Museum on Monday night by Heather Jenkinson (Interior Designer and fellow blogger – do go and have a look at her blog btw) and we had a lovely evening.   Thanks for that Heather :-)

Naomi is a very comfortable speaker and she has a no-nonsense approach to interior design and quotes Norman Potter (1923-95) “Every human being is a designer”.   She wants to dispel the myth that interior design is about choosing wallpaper and paint colours and explains the basics of designing a home that fits in with the way we live and enhances our quality of life.

I’ve been itching to get into the book ever since!  I do love a good design book.

The book expands on this and is a mixture of practical advice and inspiration. From how to evaluate your needs, learn to think creatively, plan for the way you want to live, and then, how to turn your ideas into reality.

Of course, it has its share of pretty, inspirational pictures too.

And in Naomi’s own words

“To design a home is to design happiness, to create for ourselves a little piece of joy.”

I’ll second that.
